France is recognized for its significant contribution to medical research. It is home to several major global pharmaceutical companies and is one of the leading drug producers in the world. It has many world-renowned research institutes and participates in numerous international collaborations in the field of health.
The health sector amounts to EUR 235.8 billion in 2022, 8.9% of France’s GDP.
In 2022, French exports of pharmaceutical products reached nearly 33.8 billion euros.
In 2023, France invested around EUR 3.7 billion, mainly in the extensions or modernizations of existing production sites but also decarbonization projects in the pharmaceutical industry.
