Danish investments in France reached new highs in 2024

2024 was a record year for Danish investment in France, driven by a shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and long-term cooperation. With France being the leading destination for European investments, the two countries have strengthened their collaboration in key sectors and creating a solid foundation for future growth.

Denmark remains the 1st Nordic investor in France

In 2024, Denmark confirmed its position as the leading Nordic investor in France, reaching record levels of investment. Danish companies announced 74 new investment projects this year, a remarkable increase of 48% compared to the previous year. For the fourth year in a row, France remained the top European destination for Danish investors, demonstrating Danish companies’ confidence in the stability and potential of the French market. For the second year in a row, Denmark was also the Nordic country that created the most jobs, with a total of 1,146.

Retail is boosting Danish investments in 2024

Over 80% of Danish investment project are in the retail sector demonstrating both their strong confidence in the French market and their responsiveness to evolving consumer expectations. Well-known companies like Normal, Jysk, and Bestseller thus contribute to the dynamism of city centres and regional economies, while offering an approach to retail that continues to resonate with French shoppers.

Health continues to be a major sector for Danish investment

Historically, Danish investors have had a strong presence in the French health sector, Novo Nordisk being a notable example. This trend continues in 2024 and particularly in the field of digital health. These investments align closely with France’s strategic priorities, especially those outlined in the France 2030 initiative, which aims to position the country at the forefront of healthcare innovation. France’s advanced research ecosystem and supportive regulatory environment have attracted leading Danish firms.

These include Selfback, which has established its operations in Paris to develop digital therapy solutions for back pain. Another example is Loretta, which is actively working on biometric technologies for cosmetic and dermatological applications within the Cosmetic Valley cluster in Chartres.

Energy and logistics, other key sectors for Danish investments

Danish companies are also investing in other sectors such as energy and logistics. France’s strategic location at the heart of Europe, combined with its efficient infrastructure, makes it an attractive destination for Danish companies.

Energy has also become a major area of investment, driven by the two countries’ shared commitment to sustainability and climate action. Denmark, known for its expertise in renewable energy, especially wind power, sees France as a valuable partner in its efforts to accelerate the ecological transition. This collaboration not only strengthens their shared sustainability goals, but also supports France’s energy sovereignty, ensuring a more secure and sustainable future.

Reflecting this trend, Dall Energy announced in April 2025 the opening of a regional office in Nantes to foster closer collaboration with local stakeholders. With access to France’s advanced energy infrastructure, they aim to deliver innovative and sustainable energy solutions that meet the evolving needs of their clients.

A forward-looking dynamic with the signing of a strategic partnership

The unprecedented momentum of Danish investment in France reached a new peak with the recent Danish state visit to France. This historic visit embodied a shared political will to deepen cooperation and go beyond traditional economic exchanges. It laid the foundations for a strategic partnership, a long-term alliance with global ambitions.

During this visit, France and Denmark signed a strategic partnership agreement that now defines their cooperation in several key areas. This agreement covers security and defense, energy and climate, health, technology and innovation, and cultural and scientific cooperation. It formalizes a common agenda that reflects both countries’ priorities and reaffirms their commitment to work together on the challenges of tomorrow.

This strategic framework not only consolidates past achievements but also paves the way for future progress. With this partnership, France and Denmark reaffirm their shared ambition to promote sustainable growth, foster innovation and promote a more resilient and inclusive economic model.
