Entrepreneurial Spirit & Global Ambitions
Sébastien’s journey into the world of pharma is backed by a solid educational foundation. He holds a master’s degree in Pharmaceuticals from EMLyon Business School in France, which has equipped him with the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of the pharmaceutical industry. His academic pursuits were not just about acquiring knowledge but also about preparing himself to make a meaningful impact in a sector that is constantly evolving.
From a young age, Sébastien has been driven by a deep entrepreneurial spirit and the desire to create something meaningful. This drive has also fueled his interest in exploring new cultures and gaining international experiences, which ultimately led him to seize the opportunity to work in FMP’s Boston office as a VIE.
Upon arriving in Boston, Sébastien faced the challenge of adapting to his new role: he was responsible for dealing with day-to-day logistics with partners while driving business growth by identifying new opportunities and building strong client relationships. Sebastien was eager to immerse himself in the local biotech sector and met the challenges of business development with enthusiasm.
“The role’s challenging complexity has made it quite engaging for me,” Sébastien says. “Each project is compelling and has a significant impact on the companies we work with. Being a key player in advancing these projects and having a comprehensive role is truly satisfying.”
Despite his positive outlook, he also remembers the challenges that came with the setup of an American branch. Sébastien and his team have learned from past mistakes and have identified the difficulty of working between France and the U.S. “We were once confronted with a case involving mouse tissue samples, where an American CRO was responsible for conducting initial tests.” Sébastien recalls. “The samples were then sent to us for further analysis, but the shipment via FedEx arrived in poor condition. We had to adapt quickly, find alternative ways to salvage the samples, and ensure the integrity of our analysis. It’s a reminder that in this line of work, logistics are just as crucial as the science itself. This is the kind of situation you have to learn to deal with.
Toward a Permanent Role
Being a VIE in Boston has been a transformative experience for Sébastien. It has allowed him to strengthen his range of skills, gain confidence through meetings and events, and nourish his passion for biotechnology and entrepreneurship.
Sébastien’s team in France is deeply committed to scientific advancement and research. The team is known for being readily available and supportive, with strong managerial skills that foster an effective and collaborative work environment. Sébastien has earned the trust of his peers in France through his ability to handle his responsibilities effectively. After proving his value on the North-American market, FMP has offered him a position as the head of the local branch, a great way to transform his first VIE experience into a win-win, durable solution for his company.
“Driven by a passion for scientific challenges, Firalis consistently demonstrates a high level of expertise. The trust they placed in me to handle the American development of FMP has been crucial to gain confidence, and grow into my current role.”
Sébastien’s involvement establishing FMP in Boston provided him with valuable experience. Working closely with American clients and adapting to the American work culture was an eye-opener for Sébastien. Placed in a coworking space, he found himself surrounded by other ambitious volunteers, who inspired him to push his boundaries. Additionally, he appreciated the pace of life in America, where taking time for oneself outside of work is valued and encouraged. This environment accelerated his learning and broadened his international perspective.
Now firmly established in his role in Boston, Sébastien contributes significantly to the development of FMP in Boston.
