France is ambitious on developing the EV network and makes it a market full of opportunities for Nordic companies in this sector.

A growing  market

France is the second biggest market in Europe for the sales of Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and the growth was of 43% between 2016 and 2017. Right behind France, the Nordic countries represent the third largest share with 8% of the global BEVs in circulation in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. In 2030, the Nordic region is projecting to have 4 million electric vehicles in circulation which is 15 times higher than today.

Electric vehicles are surfing on a great wave

In the first semester of 2018, France experiences a 6% increase of registered BEVs (14381 BEVs registered) compared to the first semester of 2017. The French manufacturer, Renault, is the top choice with the Zoé car occupying more than 60% of the market share.
According to Avere France, Sales of electric cars (BEVs) in France have increased by 43% in 2017 compared to 2016 making it the second European country in sales of electric cars for 2017 just behind Norway and ahead Germany (3rd) and the UK (4th). According to the 2018 global EV outlook of the international energy agency, in 2017 118 770 electric cars were registered in France, 78.26% BEVs (92 950) and 21.74% Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles PHEVs (PHEVs: 25 820).

In May, the French government along with representatives for the automobile industry announced an ambitious plan to reach one million electric cars in circulation by 2022, which represents 600 000 BEVs and 400 000 PHEVs. The French government wishes to encourage the installation of 100 000 charging station in the coming years, especially in the shared parts of private buildings, by issuing a tax cut.
