France’s ambitious plans to develop sales of electric vehicle and EV network

On May 22, the French government along with representatives for the automobile industry announced an ambitious objective to reach a million-electric car in circulation by 2022 which means 600 000 Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 400 000 Plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) and to increase in the coming years to 100 000 the number of charging station. The French government wants also to ease the installation of those charging points in the shared parts of private buildings by tax exemption.

According to Avere France, Sales of electric cars (BEVs) in France have increased by 43% in 2017 compared to 2016 and sales continue growing in Q1 2018 (+41% compared with a year earlier) making it the second European country in sales of electric cars for 2017 just behind Norway and ahead Germany (3rd) and the UK (4th).

According to the 2018 global EV outlook of the international energy agency, in 2017 118 770 electric cars were registered in France, 78.26% BEVs (92 950) and 21.74% PHEVs (25 820).

With 35 million vehicles registered and the plan to ban petrol and diesel engines by 2040, French fast growing EV market is full of opportunities for industrials of this sector.
