
Investments in Cleantech sector remain high in 2017
In 2017, 112 French cleantech companies raised a total of 921 M EUR. In 2017 about 921 M € were invested in French cleantech companies.
These amounts include investments in equity made through all sources of financing: private equity funds, business angels, industrials, crowdfunding platforms, stock market, etc.
Three sectors, renewable energy, energy efficiency and smart mobility, captured 80% of the funds.
Renewable energy largely dominates the ranking in number of operations, 28, and especially in amount collected, 529 M EUR, which is 57% of the year’s total. Energy efficiency was the second biggest sector with 24 operations and 138 M EUR funds raised, representing 15% of the total funds. The third sector, smart mobility, had 22 operations and 96 M EUR funds raised, representing 10% of the total. Among the other sectors, energy storage sector raised 52 M EUR (5,6%), green chemistry 40 M EUR (4,3%), Ag-tech 30 M EUR (3,3%), circular economy 21 M EUR (2,3%), Air & Environment 5,5 M EUR (0,5%) and others 8,8 M EUR (0,9%).
Business France will be this year one of the main partner of the Cleantech Venture Day, the biggest cleantech investment event in the Nordics.
Over the years more than 220 companies have pitched in front of international investors and received over 500 M € worth investments after the event. This year, Cleantech Venture Day goes back to basics, with a focus on living and eating: Cleantech meets PropTech and FoodTech in a sustainable city. The pre-event will take place this year at the French embassy in Finland
